Days of Our Lives fans are finally getting to know Tate Black, Brady Black’s son who was mainly raised by his mom Thresesa in California. However, Theresa was not Tate’s first mother and she didn’t even know she had a son until months after he was born. How could that be?

Days of Our Lives Defies Logic Again

Kristen DiMera (then played by Eileen Davidson) has been obsessed with Brady (Eric Martsolf) for years despite briefly being his stepmother when he was a toddler. The pair nearly married until Brady learned that Kristen had sex with his brother Eric, who was not even aware of what was happening. Still, Kristen wanted a part of Brady she thought she could never have.

Enter Jeanne Theresa Donovan (then played by Jen Lilley), who as an adult prefers to use her middle name. The daughter of Shane (Charles Shaughnessy) and Kimberly Donovan (Patsy Pease), she came to Salem as a drug addict and quickly had a fling with fellow addict Brady. They even wed in Vegas, although that marriage was quickly annulled. Afterwards, Theresa was sure she was pregnant but the doctor she saw insisted she was not.

What she didn’t know was that the doctor had drugged her so that Kristen could kidnap her and the doctor could take her intact embryo and implant it in Kristen. When Theresa woke, she had no idea what happened. But Kristen was happy. She left town with a little message for Brady, telling him that she’d always have a part of him with her.

Theresa Figures Out The Truth

Apparently, the drugs that the doctor gave Theresa didn’t work as well as planned. She started to slowly remember what happened to her and believed she had a child out there somewhere. After convincing Brady that her crazy story was true, they tracked Kristen down in Italy where she was living with a baby boy she gave birth to and named Christopher.

She was determined to keep this child as her own so she’d be tied to Brady for life, but Theresa wasn’t about to let that happen. Marlena was with Brady and Theresa when they found Kristen and the two former enemies got into a physical fight with Kristen falling out the window, allegedly to her death.

Brady and Theresa took their son back to Salem and renamed him Tate while a not-dead Kristen (now played by Stacy Haiduk) eventually found another implausible way to have Brady’s baby at an advanced maternal age. She donned a Nicole (Arianne Zucker) mask and slept with Brady, who had a thing for Nicole at the time. That’s how precocious Rachel Black came to be.
