Soap vet Steve Burton thrilled and surprised General Hospital fans last week when he appeared at the end of the show’s primetime special, General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling. Now, he shares his first moment back at the ABC Prospect Studios, a home away from home for the actor off and on since 1991. You can see the exclusive video right below.
Steve Burton Is Back At GH
“So crazy man,” Burton said in wonder in the studio parking lot. “Just finished the promo for the promo for the 60th anniversary special and it was incredible to be back. I cannot wait.”
As viewers know, Burton emerged from a foggy door in the dark at the end of the special just after Laura Wright (Carly) happily announced “When one door closes, another door opens.” Burton was joined by Wright on one side and Kelly Monaco (Sam) on the other, hinting that both women may be vying for Jason’s affections once he returns to the Port Charles scenes.
Burton admitted on The Daily Drama Podcast that it was hard to keep his comeback on the down low once he was in the studio to film that small closing segment, but all was right with the world when he got Jason’s black leather jacket back.
“We tried to keep it super low profile in the building,” Burton said. “Here’s the thing. Once you start telling makeup, hair, wardrobe, it’s hard. It’s supposed to be hush-hush but I’m going back in the building…you can’t just drop me in the dressing room and then take me up to stage and shoot something without people noticing.”
What Will Jason Do Next?
It’s been two years since Jason was buried beneath the rubble after an explosion on Cassadine Island. He was presumed dead for the second time in 10 years just after ending a one-day marriage to Carly because it turned out Sonny (Maurice Benard) was alive.
Since news of Burton’s return broke, fans have been speculating which woman he will be paired with. Some want to see ‘Jarly’ be given a chance, others want Jason and Sam to pick up where they left off, while still other fans would love to see Jason and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) give it a go again.
Who Jason ends up with is anyone’s guess at the moment, but expect exciting things to come as everyone’s favorite mob enforcer makes his way back to the Port Charles scene.
