Maurice Benard Reflects On Recent, ‘Raw,’ General Hospital Scenes

It seems all any self-respecting General Hospital fan is talking about is Maurice Benard’s (Sonny Corinthos) recent tour-de-force.

The actor shared on X that the scenes of his alter-ego considering unaliving himself had been filmed “the first day I came back” [from a self-imposed hiatus necessary for his own mental health] and that they were “raw. I really felt that I could fall off that ledge.”

He further admitted that the crisis was “very difficult to play. It sure has been a different beat. Difficult at times. I’ve never really played Sonny this way.”

And to one concerned fan who inquired as to his own well-being, Benard relayed: “Thank you for asking, but you just have to keep saying to yourself you are stronger than you know.” To another he wrote: “Those scenes were difficult, but I am feeling fantastic now”
