When Marcus Taggert was last seen in General Hospital, he was secretly drowning his sorrows on his lonesome at Kelly’s (yes, this was way before the establishment was rechristened to honor the late Bobbi Spencer) — and according to his portrayer, Réal Andrews, that’s almost certainly the last you will see of his alter-ego.

Réal Andrews Speaks Out On His Acting Journey

During a late-night Instagram confessional (one long promised to his fans, the ones he calls his “champions”) Andrews revealed that he had answers to the questions that he’d been receiving since he filmed that long-ago scene — and they were “probably not the answers you want to hear.”

While unable to speak definitively for The Powers That Be at the ABC sudser, what Andrews could speak to was “What God has shown me — loud and clear. My chapter with General Hospital is over…The writing has been on the wall for a long time.” Not that Andrews harbors anyone any will.

The actor even went out of his way to give shoutouts to his own champions at his former home away from home — Mark Teschner [GH Casting Director since 1989], Wendy Richie [executive producer of GH from January 28, 1992 to January 22, 2001], Robert Guza Jr. [the headwriter for the majority of Andrew’s tenure], Frank Valentini [the incumbent EP], and good buddy Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) — and counted himself “blessed” to have gone out with the material that he did.

And while Andrews would never say never to a return somewhere along the line, he’s currently in pre-production for “the biggest role of my life…biggest and best network, best actors, writers, producers in the industry.” An NDA precludes him from saying but much, but he assures that it’s “HUGE!”
