Landing the role of Alexis Davis all those years ago was a dream come true for Nancy Lee Grahn. She grew up watching ABC soaps, came into the soap universe with her role on Santa Barbara, and is thankful she found a home on General Hospital.

Recently, Nancy spoke with Soap She Knows to talk about her time on the daytime screen and what General Hospital means to her. “From my time on Santa Barbara, I knew that the cast of a soap opera is a family. They were my family for years, and now I was walking into someone else’s family. And it was important to me that I respect that, and that I recognize myself as being a guest in their home,” she said of her first few days on the GH set.

Becoming Alexis and cultivating her powerhouse character was, and still is, exciting for the actress. “Outside of the crazy drama, Alexis is a lot like the women who watch the show. She’s a mom, she”s a professional, she cares about other people. But she’s also able to be many other things, all at the same time,” Grahn says of her alter-ego.

What Comes Next For Alexis?

Of course, not everything in Alexis’s life is sunshine and roses. She is either at the top of her game or she’s making the worst decisions of her life. To that, Nancy says, “She can do dumb things, smart things, sexy things, not-sexy things… at the end of the day, you’re never going to be bored with her!”

While Alexis is currently taking the wrap for Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Kristina (Kate Mansi), Nancy Lee Grahn has hope for the future. And what does she want for her character? A man! “I’ve had my wins and my loses, but hey, I’m still here,” she jokes. “Now if we could just get Alexis a good man. Or a bad man! She just needs someone to love!”
