Xander’s Redemption Arc Deepens: From Villain to Vigilante (and Therapy Patient)!
Now, let’s talk about Xander Kiriakis (the utterly captivating Paul Telfer)! This man has had one of the most compelling redemption arcs in recent memory. This week, we learn he’s not only going to save Philip, but he’s also seeking therapy with none other than Dr. Marlena Evans (our iconic Deidre Hall)!
First, Xander saving Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson)? This is a fascinating twist! Philip has certainly had his share of troubles, from faking his own death and framing Brady (a common theme, it seems!) to his ongoing struggles with the Kiriakis empire. What kind of danger is Philip in that requires Xander, a former mercenary with a heart of gold (mostly), to step in? Is it mob-related? A corporate enemy? Whatever it is, it further solidifies Xander’s journey from a ruthless villain under Victor Kiriakis’s (rest in peace, John Aniston) wing to a genuinely good man, heavily influenced by his love for Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey). He’s truly trying to make amends for his dark past, and saving his cousin is a huge step.
But then, therapy with Marlena! This is HUGE for Xander’s character development. What demons is he confronting now? The guilt of his past transgressions? The emotional toll of his tumultuous life? Relationship anxieties with Sarah? Marlena has helped countless Salemites navigate their darkest hours, and I can only imagine the intense, revealing sessions between these two. It’s a testament to his growth that he’s willing to face his inner turmoil head-on. Paul Telfer is going to knock these scenes out of the park!
The Deveraux Dynasty Returns: A Birthday Celebration!
And speaking of beloved characters, get ready for a homecoming! The legendary supercouple Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer Horton (Cady McClain) are back in Salem! Their return is for a joyous occasion: their son JJ Deveraux’s (Casey Moss) birthday. My heart always swells when these three are together!
Jack and Jennifer are the quintessential Salem couple, surviving kidnappings, presumed deaths, and memory loss, always finding their way back to each other. JJ, too, has faced immense challenges, from his struggles with depression after Paige’s death to his heroic work as a police officer and later, a paramedic. A birthday celebration is a wonderful reason for a family reunion, but let’s be honest, in Salem, family visits rarely stay simple. Will Jack and Jennifer get pulled into a new Spectator investigation? Will they offer their wise counsel to Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) or another struggling loved one? I’m hoping for some classic Jack and Jennifer magic, perhaps even a hint of a new mystery they can sink their journalistic teeth into!
Gabi’s Game: The Queen of Schemes is Back!
Finally, we have Gabi Hernandez-DiMera (the incomparable Camila Banus) planting a bug! Oh, Gabi, you never change, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! This is classic Gabi, always one step ahead, always scheming for power, control, and perhaps, a little revenge.
The big question is: who is her target? Is she trying to get the upper hand at DiMera Enterprises? Is she spying on EJ (Dan Feuerriegel), Stefan (Brandon Barash), or perhaps even Li Shin (Remington Hoffman)? Gabi has a long history of corporate espionage and manipulative tactics, especially when it comes to securing her place at the top of Salem’s corporate ladder. Her rivalry with Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) and her on-again-off-again power struggles with Stefan have always been prime-time viewing. Whatever her endgame, you can bet it’s going to cause maximum chaos and deliver some deliciously dramatic moments!
