While Golden Bachelor contestant Joan Vassos will dole out the roses on the first season of The Golden Bachelorette, there exists the possibility that soap icon Susan Lucci could have been performing the honors.

The actress told People, “I believe that they contacted my publicist and it wasn’t for me.” But that’s not to say La Lucci isn’t a fan of the televised love experiment. “I watched The Golden Bachelor. I really enjoyed watching The Golden Bachelor. This is a new addiction for me.
“My assistant told me she was going home to watch The Bachelor with her daughters. She said, ‘Well, it’s really good.’ I watched it. The first time I watched it was that night a couple seasons ago. I was immediately engaged. I cared. I wanted to know more about these people.” A sentiment that many a soap fan can relate to.
And while the series, in all its iterations, has become the actress’ “new guilty pleasure,” she says that, “I didn’t pursue [it] when they called my publicist to see if I would be interested. It wasn’t for me, but I do love watching. I’m a fan. I love watching.”
In spite of Lucci’s declaration, a source close to the action insisted to People that she was not in contention for the honor.
