Just this week, fans of the Young and the Restless were thrilled to hear that the show was bringing back one of their all-time favorite characters. Veronica Redd is coming back to star in her role as Mamie Johnson once again. She will return on September 26 to play the great aunt to Nate, Lily, and Devon. For those fans who have been watching Y&R since the beginning, you will remember Redd as the Abbott’s trusted housekeeper in 1990-1995 and then in 1999-2004. She also made a very quick appearance in Genoa City in March of last year.

Why Is Mamie Coming Home?

Of course, the Abbott family always has needed Mamie around to take care of things at home, but from the looks of it, she is needed for a lot more than keeping up with the housekeeping. When she came back to Genoa City back in March, she met up with Jill Abbot at the Bicentennial Gala. Fans have always known that Jill and Mamie haven’t ever seen eye to eye. When they ran into each other at the Gala, Mamie pointed out that she was doing better than ever now that she had been away for a few years. However, now it seems as if Mamie is trying to get everyone together for a reunion of sorts, but there could be reasons behind her actions this time around.

As fans gear up to see more of Mamie, they do have some big questions about the real reason that she is returning. Is there good news or bad news that she needs to share with the Abbotts? Her family may also have a feeling that something is wrong since she is coming back and with so much importance. Mamie could be back to solely reconnect with her family, but there are other reasons that too. Is she doing well or is she sick? Does she have some family secrets that she needs to get off of her chest?

Mamie has always been a character that fans love and the last thing that they want to see is her sharing bad news with her family and the Abbotts. The Abbotts and her family have always leaned on Mamie for advice and love. Now that Lily and Daniel are trying to get the fire going in their relationship again, could Lily really need Mamie’s help? Heather is back in town and of course, Lily and Daniel have both noticed how this has put a damper on their relationship. Is this why Mamie is here?

Nate may also need Mamie’s help now that he is working hard on climbing higher on the corporate ladder with Victoria. His life has changed quite a bit and Mamie seems to be the one person that could set him straight. At least Devon has been doing well these days and Mamie will be very proud to see this.

As the date of Mamie’s return gets closer, fans of the Young and the Restless do hope to get more answers as to why she is coming back. Will she be back for more than one episode? Will there be secrets that come out upon her return? Redd wasn’t sure how much fans loved the role of Mamie, but she opened up to fans recently about it. She was very happy to be asked back by the head writer, Josh Griffith and told fans, “Had it not been for Josh and the light-hearted expertise of Y&R’s publicist Matt Kane, I wouldn’t have had a clue how beloved Mamie was by fans of the show. It has been both flattering and stupefying to experience how many fans are still so loyal and devoted to her. It makes me proud of all the years of hard work and joy that Marguerite Ray and I both put into the development of such an enduring character. Thank you, Mamie fans! You’ve all be so gracious and generous in this- my third return to the show.”
