Character actor Dabney Coleman, probably best known for his work in 9 to 5, On Golden Pond, and Toostsie, passed away on May 16 at the age of 92. In the days that followed, Eric Braeden (Victor Newman, The Young and the Restless) took to social media to bid his good buddy adieu.

“Upon his recommendation did I decide to do Y&R,” relayed the actor on Instagram. “Dabney was 92! A great actor, great friend and tennis player! REST IN PEACE, my friend!!!”

Braeden had previously revealed that it was Coleman who encouraged him to meet with reps from the CBS sudser, promising him that he would “love it.” Coleman, of course, knew of which he spoke having played Dr. Tracy Grahm on NBC’s Bright Promise (created by Frank and Doris Hursley, the progenitors of General Hospital) and Merle Jeeter on the satirical, syndicated soapie Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.
Coleman is survived by his four children.
