Allison Lanier came onto the scene as Summer Newman back in 2022 and immediately, The Young and the Restless fans knew we had a star on our hands! Lanier has commanded the role, made it her own, and thrown herself into the wonderful drama that is daytime television. We were lucky enough to touch base with the actress and get the inside scoop on what’s coming up with her character’s tense custody storyline.
Allison Lanier Dishes!
Currently, Summer and Kyle (Michael Mealor) are duking it out night and day over raising Harrison (Redding Munsell). For Kyle, this seems to be an odd position considering he’s Harrison’s only biological parent on the scene. And, for a while, fans doubted that Summer even had a leg to stand on. Now that it’s come out she adopted the boy back in Italy, it’s game on!
What does that mean for Summer? Will she take a page or two out of her dad’s book and play fair or will she dig into those Victor Newman genes coursing through her veins and hit low? “From Summer’s perspective, she’s not really going low at all,” Lanier tells us. “She’s going through the proper legal routes. Kyle is dangling her relationship with Harrison over her head so she feels like she’s not in a position to care for her son. I think she’s willing to do what it takes….but above board.”
One of Summer’s biggest pet peeves in all of this is Kyle’s ongoing closeness with Audra (Zuleyka Silver), even if it’s only on a professional level. That beef isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. “Summer knows intimate details of Audra’s previous relationship with her brother, Noah. And, then there was Audra seducing Kyle before they were even officially divorced,” Lanier explains.
“Summer just has a general feeling that Audra is not a trustworthy person, not somebody that she wants Harrison to be around. I think some of it is just that Summer feels like her life is really out of control right now, and some of it is projecting onto Audra, but I think that she doesn’t trust her for very valid reasons.”
Of course, that’s not the only woman in Kyle’s life that Summer has an issue with. She’s not too fond of the nanny, either. “Summer is annoyed with Claire poking her nose into her business,” Lanier suggests. “It’s very hot and cold; it depends on the day what their interaction is like. I’m guessing, with the way things are going, there might be more drama to come.”
Thankfully, Summer doesn’t have to deal with this mess on her own. Not only does she have her grandpa gunning for a good outcome, but her parents keep doling out the advice too. And, she also has Chance (Conner Floyd) on her side. “They’re both really happy and I think that Summer feels like Chance makes her a better version of herself. They have a lot of fun together.” Does that mean Chance and Summer are endgame, though? Maybe…but, maybe not. “I definitely think that Summer and Kyle’s love story isn’t over yet,” Lainer teases.
