General Hospital took their yearly break, and so did the cast and crew. For Steve Burton, this meant packing up his van and taking his comedy show on tour! We have the inside scoop on his life on the road.
Steve Burton’s Mini-Van Life
GH fans know Steve Burton as the rough and rugged Jason Morgan, but outside of the soap world, he’s actually a really funny guy. So much so, that he spends much of his downtime on his comedy tour. And this time, he’s given Daily Drama a look a his time on the stage.
What can you expect from the Life with Steve Burton show? A whole lot of laughs and a good time! “With me coming back from [GH], I felt it was a good time to go out on the road,” Burton tells us. “These are comedy clubs so I do about 45 minutes of comedy about GH and life and then we take a little break and do a Q&A.”
Questions and answers you say! Count us in! “Fans love that part of it because it’s about the show but it’s also can be about my personal life,” he shares. “That’s when I really get to talk about turning adversary into victory and overcoming obstacles. It was a great hybrid of GH and life.”
This round of shows took Steve to Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Long Island, Jersey, and other cities in the general area. He didn’t go it alone, though. His closest real-life buddy was right there with him. “We drove the whole time. It was me and my best friend, Jeremy. He’s been with me doing these shows for 25 years. I met him on The Last Castle. He was an extra and became a stand-in and we became best friends,” Steve enthuses. “We definitely put some miles on that minivan this time. I think over 2,000.”
While this trip was all about business, Steve and Jeremy made sure to check out the sights. “We usually try to find a local coffee shop. That’s usually the hub of the city. There’s always these little cool coffee shops. We were able to do that in Columbus twice,” he shares. “We really enjoyed walking around Albany. A lot of history there and it’s a pretty cool town.”
Life on the open road isn’t for everyone, but Burton definitely enjoys it. “First of all, I would not consider myself a stand-up comedian but with all the shows that Bradford and I have done – which have been hundreds of shows – to have 45 minutes of comedy material and do a set that long is so much fun!” the star states. “Obviously, we have a receptive audience already but it’s working a different tool for me, doing comedy, which is awesome for me. Not many people expect it so that’s always nice. There’s something about going city to city seeing America, seeing different towns, meeting different people, I just love it.”
