Major Updates On The Gates – The Creative Team Expands, A More Detailed Logline, & A Casting Call

For fans anxiously anticipating the premiere of brand-new daytime drama The Gates (slated to bow January 2025), here are your latest updates which include additions to the behind-the-scenes personnel, a far more detailed description, and four character sketches.

Per Soap Hub, Bob Guza (a former headwriter of General Hospital and scribe of multiple other sudsers) and veteran producer Julie Hanan Carruthers (who stewarded, amongst others, Port Charles, GH, and All My Children) have boarded the series as executive producers alongside creatrix/showrunner/headwriter Michele Val Jean.

Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner will also serve as EPs.

Though set in the Maryland/Washington D.C. area, The Gates, which concerns the trials and tribulations of the Jacksons, an affluent Black family that resides in a gated community known as Fairmont Estates, will be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.

In addition, the show has released a breakdown of characters they’re looking to cast:

Jessica: A Black female in her early 50s. She is high-achieving and competitive. Happy to reach the standards set by her parents, Jessica gives back with warmth, empathy, and compassion as a psychiatrist at Garland Memorial Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She’s “the top of society’s food chain” but there’s a closely guarded secret that could ruin her seemingly perfect life.

Betty: A Black female in her late 60s to 70s. A family matriarch. A famous singer, Betty did not find success easily. She is proud to have raised two daughters with her iconic retired Senator husband. While she’s a doting mother, Betty is not someone who should be crossed.

Joseph: A Black male in his 50s. He is Sara’s ex-husband and a great criminal defense attorney. He’s charismatic but also calculated. And those are the nice things that can be said about him!

Sarah: A Black female (mid-late 40s). Sara is “the Jackson family wild child. Free-spirited, beautiful, headstrong, and uninhibited.” She dropped out of high school to pursue a modeling career. However, Joseph persuaded her to give it up to be a full-time mother and housewife. As often is the case, old habits die hard, and as infidelity rears its ugly head, so does revenge….
