The Bold and the Beautiful’s Douglas has been dreaming of the day when both of his parents will be together and they can live as one big happy family. That wish might come true soon as Hope considers Thomas’s marriage proposal while wearing an engagement ring around her neck, but just how did Hope become Douglas’s mom when he was about five years old?

Lonely Grieving Hope Needed A Child To Love

After Hope (Annika Noelle) was told her baby girl died at birth, she went into a dark period of mourning in which she shut everyone she loved out of her life, including husband Liam (Scott Clifton). In fact, she ended her marriage despite Liam’s objections.

When old flame Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) returned to town in his own state of grief with young son Douglas (Henry Joseph Samiri), Hope immediately became attached to the little boy who had just lost his mom, Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey). Thomas and Hope bonded in their unhealthy grief, with Thomas deciding Hope would be the perfect new mom for his child.

Hope just wanted a little one to love, but she was not in love with Thomas. However, he was so in love with her that it became an obsession as he emotionally manipulated both Douglas and Hope, convincing Hope to marry him so they could be a family. What he didn’t tell Hope was that he’d recently learned her little girl was alive and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) had inadvertently adopted her.

Shortly after Hope and Thomas took their vows, Liam learned the truth about Beth and Hope ended her hours-long union with Thomas and returned to Liam. However, she never stopped loving Douglas and wanting to be his mom.

Douglas Needed a Mom And Got One

Although Liam wanted to put Hope’s time with Thomas behind them, she wanted Douglas to be her son. To that end, Hope first tried convincing Thomas she wanted him so he’d let her have access to Douglas. When that didn’t work, she finally coerced him into signing papers that allowed her to legally adopt Douglas.

Douglas eventually went to live with Hope and Liam in her little log cabin with Beth as his baby sister and seemed content for a while. Thomas would visit and take Douglas to stay with him every so often. A year ago, Thomas wanted full custody of Douglas but let him make up his mind in court.

Surprisingly, he chose to go live with Aunt Steffy and have a beach vacation for a few weeks. He really just wanted to get away from his bickering parents. When he saw Hope and Thomas getting along again, he told Steffy he was ready to go home to the cabin.

The Family Douglas Wants?

Little does Douglas know that his mom and dad have been having quite the romance since last summer. He knows they seem to be closer than ever and even arranged a dinner for two at Thomas’s place for them a few months ago.

As of this writing, Hope is still grappling with disturbing information from Thomas’s dark past, but has made it clear that she knows he is a different man and can see some sort of future with him. This will likely make Douglas the happiest little boy in LA as his five-year dream of living with BOTH Hope and Thomas comes true.
