Today’s The Bold and the Beautiful recap for December 12, 2023, details Ridge’s decision and Donna’s fury.

Ridge’s Fateful Decision

With Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) having medical power of attorney for Eric (John McCook), he had a big decision to make. He could allow his father to die or subject him to an experimental treatment that may or may not work. Ridge worried he would be hooked to machines for the rest of his life.

When Donna (Jennifer Gareis) realized Ridge might not allow the treatment, she couldn’t believe her ears. For that matter, neither could Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang). What was Ridge even thinking? If there was a chance to save Eric, they needed to take it.

Donna was absolutely incensed that Ridge was willing to let Eric die when he might not have to. Steffy did her best to try to talk sense into her father, but Ridge’s mind was made up and made Donna admit that Eric said he didn’t want any heroic measures to save his life. (Perhaps he meant, don’t prolong his life with a ventilator — not don’t save him if there is a cure.

Still, this didn’t deter Donna as she still begged Ridge to allow Finn (Tanner Novlan) to save her Honey Bear’s life. Steffy implored Finn to explain the treatment again, but Ridge seemed to have his hands over his ears. Finn once again stressed there were no guarantees, but there was a chance.

Finally, Ridge decided it was time to say goodbye.

Forresters Fret

Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), Hope (Annika Noelle), Zende (Delon De Metz), and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) gathered in Eric’s office to wait for news, but Zende grew impatient. He felt they were being left out and he wanted to go see his grandfather. Thomas couldn’t even imagine Ridge having to make a decision about whether his own father would live or die.

Zende couldn’t imagine allowing Eric to die, but Hope pointed out Eric would want a life worth living and not be on a ventilator for the rest of his days.

Once Hope and Thomas were alone in the office, Hope did her best to be there for Thomas. Although he knew Eric was dying, it didn’t seem real until now.
