This week, Lucas Horton makes his way back onto the Days of Our Lives scene, but he’s still lingering away in Statesville for one of his absolute dumbest moves yet. So, what exactly did Lucas do to land himself in prison for this long?
Lucas And Sami Could Have Happened Again
With Alison Sweeney coming and going from DAYS and Salem for the past decade, each one of her appearances and disappearances has to be explained away by creative storytelling, but her last two departures happened for a very strange reason.
If you’ll recall, Lucas (Bryan R. Dattilo) and Sami couldn’t resist one another when Sami and EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) seemed to be having problems with their marriage. She left her husband in Europe to return to Salem and ended up in bed with Lucas. She also ended up in ‘tunnel’ with Lucas as they couldn’t resist one another in the DiMera tunnels either.
Lucas realized he was still in love with Sami and wanted her back, but Sami wanted to try to make things work with EJ. The next thing we knew Sami was mysteriously kidnapped and missing for months. When she reappeared, it was Lucas who came to her rescue. Sami was so grateful that she threw EJ out with the trash and chose to marry Lucas.
Lucas Was Thrown Under The Bus
Too bad for both of them the truth came out at their wedding. Lucas was the one who had Sami kidnapped and held in a remote cabin for all that time for the sole purpose of rescuing her so that Sami would choose him over EJ. When Sami learned the truth, she pressed charges against her ex and fled town again.
Yes, Lucas has done some pretty stupid things in his time, but kidnapping Sami just so she’d marry him seemed out of left field and definitely out of character. It almost felt like the show wrote a kidnapping exit plot for Sami without an ending and decided on Lucas as the culprit months down the road for no other reason than to break up ‘Lumi’ and write them off the canvas for an extended period of time.
For some reason, Lucas is still behind bars despite characters like Kristen DiMera walking free. In fact, three of Salem’s worst criminals were pardoned during the time Lucas has been in jail, but he still sits in Statesville for no good reason.
Now, Lucas might be able to do the good deed that springs him from prison when he agrees to bring down Clyde Weston from the inside. So, where is Sami when you need her?
