In a heartbreaking hour of television, General Hospital, the show and the medical center, said goodbye to Bobbie Spencer on January 10, as played by Jacklyn Zeman for 45 years. Bobbie had many husbands and loves through the years, but perhaps none more memorable than Tony Jones, the man she thought she’d raise a family with after so many years of wanting to be a mom.

Bobbie And Tony Went From Friends To Lovers

Tony’s (Brad Maule) first wife was Tania Roskov (Hillary Edson), who gave him a daughter they named Barbara Jean after Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman), the woman who helped deliver the little girl they called BJ. After Tania was killed by a hit-and-run driver, Bobbie had a dalliance with Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), but his friendship with Bobbie grew and they eventually fell in love.

Bobbie and Tony married and settled into life as parents. Bobbie legally adopted BJ as her own and after some complications, the pair legally adopted Tiffany Hill’s (Sharon Wyatt) nephew Lucas. Bobbie, Tony, Lucas, and BJ became a happy family for the next few years, but then tragedy struck. BJ’s school bus was in a horrible accident and she was rushed to GH where her neurologist father knew she was brain dead the moment he looked at her non-responsive eyes.

Bobbie and Tony chose to give BJ’s healthy heart to her gravely ill cousin Maxie. After Tony said goodbye to his little girl, he then went to see Maxie after her surgery. When he put his head on her chest to listen to his child’s heart beating in his niece’s chest, it became one of the most heartbreaking and iconic moments in soap opera history.

Bobbie And Tony Never Recovered

The loss of their daughter put a strain on Bobbie and Tony’s marriage which eventually ended up destroying it. As they tried to be there for Lucas, there was a strain between them and Bobbie soon succumbed to the charms of Damian Smith (Leigh J. McCloskey). It was Lucy who made a bet with Damian that he couldn’t get Bobbie into bed, but he succeeded. Tony seemed to forgive Bobbie for her transgression, but he was about to do worse.

After a young physical therapist named Carly Roberts (then played by Sarah Joy Brown) came to town, Bobbie took the girl under her wing, but all she did was seduce Tony and enter into an affair with him. When she became pregnant and claimed the child belonged to Tony, Bobbie and Tony divorced, but then the truth was revealed.

Carly was the baby Bobbie had given up for adoption as a teen and Tony was not her baby’s father. Instead, after Jason (Steve Burton) spent some time pretending to be Michael’s dad, AJ Quartermaine (Billy Warlock) was revealed as the actual person who got Carly pregnant during a one-night stand.

By then, Bobbie and Tony divorced and went their separate ways. She ended up with both Stefan Cassadine (Stephen Nichols) and Roy DeLuca (A Martinez) and Tony became a lost man. In 2006, Tony died during the Port Charles encephalitis outbreak and joined BJ, who passed 12 years earlier. In 2019, fans saw Tony’s spirit again when he appeared as guidance for his son, Lucas (Ryan Carnes).
