Chris Hemsworth is a pro at playing the hero. No one can argue that he’s the perfect man to play Marvel’s Thor. Recently, the superhero genre came under scrutiny and Hemsworth stepped up and spoke out. And, while doing so, he defended soap operas, too!
Chris Hemsworth Laid It Out
The A-List actor recently sat down with The Times of London to discuss all the discourse. He took a personal issue with his idol Martin Scorsese speaking poorly of Marvel movies. “It felt harsh, and it bothers me, especially from heroes. It was an eye-roll for me, people bashing the superhero space,” he told the publications.
He went on to discuss the soap opera genre getting the same kind of treatment. “Look, I grew up on a soap opera. And it used to bother me when actors would later talk about the show with guilt or shame. Humility goes a long way. One of the older actors on Home and Away said, ‘We don’t get paid to make the good lines sound good, but to make the bad ones work.’ That stuck with me.”
Hemsworth starred on the Australian sudser Home and Away as Kim Hyde from 2004 – 2007. He was featured in just shy of 2000 episodes and that experience has certainly made an impact on his life. Other actors have said very much the same in the past and tout the genre for making them better and stronger in their craft.
What do you think? Do soap and superhero actors deserve the same respect as movie stars? Sound off in the comments!
