Summer Newman has not been kind to sudden cousin Claire (Hayley Erin) on The Young and the Restless, a situation that her portrayer, Allison Lanier, doesn’t see changing anytime soon. What’s more, Lanier is sure that Summer is well within her rights to project such an attitude…even as she admits Summer’s stance probably won’t serve her well in the long run.

“I do think that Summer is going to be humbled in a lot of ways,” the actress granted to Soaps In Depth before hastening to add, “At the same time, I still think that she’s justified in almost everything that she’s done and said, just given the fact that Claire is a new person in her life and has proven herself to be dangerous at times.

“Summer has very good reasons not to trust Claire, especially with a young child. Claire wasn’t involved in kidnapping Harrison, but it doesn’t really change the fact that Claire has a dark history and has done horrible things to Summer’s family very, very recently.”

As for whether or not there is a chance for the two to grow closer: “You never know in soaps where the writers are going to take things. I think that Summer, if her opinion’s going to be changed, it might be slow to change… but things may happen in the future that might help her along the way.”
