Two years ago, Jason Thompson and Melissa Claire Egan were the headliners of an attention-grabbing storyline on The Young and the Restless, namely, Chelsea’s battle with depression and her attempt to take her own life. The costars recently set down for an interview on Good Day LA to reflect on the plot and the response it garnered.
Jason Thompson And Melissa Claire Egan Talk Y&R
After granting that it has indeed been “quite some time” since they were involved in that “beautiful story,” Egan enthused that she was grateful for the opportunity. “It moved so many people and I heard from so many of the fans that were affected, and they shared their stories about mental health and depression, and it really meant so much to us to be able to affect people.”
What resonated the most for Thompson was Billy’s struggle to be in, “The moment of not knowing what to do and how to just be there and try to be as supportive, and just listen.”
The actor also opined that the soap opera genre was at its best when it told these kinds of stories, stories that were, “compelling and that people really resonate with. The struggle is real, and so for people to see that…it was a great storyline to be a part of.”
The dynamic duo went on to field questions about what they’ve learned as performers in the soap opera biz, Y&R’s recent 50th anniversary, and where their characters currently are in their journey.
