Jacqueline MacInnes Wood is the first to admit that Steffy Forrester is “a little unhinged and messy, right now,” owning to her self-defense killing of Big Bad Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) and her renewed rivalry with Hope Logan (Annika Noelle).

And while Wood cherishes her character, she doesn’t possess blinders. “One day [Steffy’s] super real, soft, and grounded, and then she gets bored and she’s like, ‘I’m gonna throw a grenade!'” the actress relayed to First For Women. “She is the ultimate pot stirrer, and she loves the drama. The gangster will come out in me from time to time, but I’m very relaxed in my everyday life because playing Steffy is an emotional roller coaster.”
From time to time, Wood will even find herself cheering on Steffy’s perennial punching bag. “When you work on a show for so long, it’s weird, but it’s like the characters become your friends,” she offers by way of explanation. “Sometimes, you end up rooting for the other character. But you’re not supposed to ‘win’ every scene. Steffy has to fall, sometimes, so yeah, there’s moments where I’m totally Team Hope. It’s tough.”
Luckily working opposite Noelle is a breeze: “We always have a laugh between our scenes. The dynamic of Steffy and Hope is so fun, but she really puts in the work. She’s absolutely wonderful. We’ve had some crazy scenes, recently.”
While Wood grants that it’s “cool” that her alter-ego got to go toe-to-toe with, and ultimately end, “monster-in-law from hell,” Sheila, she’s well aware of the unfortunate consequences, namely, the chill in her marriage to Finn (Tanner Novlan) and his growing overfamiliarity with one Hope Logan. “Why are you spending time with this other woman when you know what Steffy is going through?” she can but wonder. “Finn shouldn’t be entertaining that. Of course, Steffy’s going to be insecure. She’s human.”
