On August 20, 2024, Suzanne Rogers will mark 51 years since her first appearance as Maggie Horton Kiriakis (Simmons, that was). In the lead-up to that auspicious day, the Days of our Lives social media team put Rogers on the spot with a loaded question: How has her character changed over the ensuing decades?
Suzanne Rogers Reflects On Her Character’s Journey
First and foremost, Maggie’s come a long way from that farm in Brookeville. And boy has she overcome. When first introduced, Maggie was reliant on crutches but still oversaw the day-to-day operations homestead, a depiction which Rogers muses was most likely “ahead of its time.”
The actress then reflected on Maggie taking a bit of a backseat to husband Mickey as was perhaps typical of the times. But times do change. Says Rogers: “Women are in the workplace. They’re out there. They’re showing that they have brains, not just beauty. And people are taking them seriously.”
Among Maggie’s greatest achievements were the two restaurants she owned and operated and her brief but fruitful tenure as CEO of Titan.
“[Maggie] has found her own,” acknowledges Rogers. “She knows who she is now and she’s not relying on anyone to make her whole. She is who she is, and I think that’s important for all of us.”
