The Bold and the Beautiful fans spent months wondering if it was really the end for Eric Forrester and John McCook’s run on the nearly 37-year-old soap. As rumors that McCook might be exiting the role he created in 1987 swirled, Eric dealt with a fatal prognosis for his mystery disease.
John McCook Is Not Done Yet
As we all now know, Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Bridget (Ashley Jones) performed a medical miracle and Eric now has a new chance at life. While Eric recovers from his ordeal in the hospital, McCook reveals that he’s not going anywhere just yet.
“From my point of view, I’ll be working right up until they drag me out of here,” McCook said in an interview with Soaps.com. “I celebrate, privately, every day that I have this job. It’s fun, it’s creative, I like the people that I work with. After my lovely wife and wonderful children, it’s the next thing that I’m grateful for — this job and the work that I’m fortunate enough to get to do.”
That sounds like there is a whole lot of Eric Forrester still to come, with McCook looking forward to all the stories that are left to tell.
“Every time I get something new to play, I’m thrilled,” the actor said. “Because how many old-man stories are there? I have to rely on Brad [Bell] and the writers to keep coming up with things, because I don’t want to just be the old guy, bouncing his grandchildren on his knee and saying sweet things to them.”
What’s Next For Eric?
As of now, Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) still wonders if he made the right decision to allow Finn to perform the experimental surgery. He wants Eric to still live the life he did before, a vibrant and active one. When RJ visited with Eric in his hospital room this week, he seemed to be doing better than Ridge described.
Is there another fashion line waiting in the wings for the Forrester patriarch and will he really design it with Ridge by his side this time, taking competition out of the equation? And will Eric’s desire to have RJ (Joshua Hoffman) help him rather than Zende (Delon De Metz) set up another generation of Forrester family feuds?
