Peacock’s Days of our Lives and ABC’s General Hospital have scored nominations in the Daytime Drama category for the 2024 Writers Guild of America Awards.
Days of our Lives Vs. General Hospital
The nominated writers for DAYS are Ron Carlivati, Creative Consultant Ryan Quan, and writers Sonja Alar, Jazmen Darnell Brown, Joanna Cohen, Carolyn Culliton and Richard Culliton (happily retired as of April 2023), Cheryl Davis, Kirk Doering, Christopher Dunn, Jamey Giddens (now a proud member of the Sistas writers’ room), David Kreizman, Henry Newman, Dave Ryan, and Katherine D. Schock.
While the eligible GH team consists of (outgoing) head writers Dan O’Connor and Chris Van Etten as well as writers Ashley Cook, Emily Culliton, Suzanne Flynn, Charlotte Gibson, Lucky Gold, Kate Hall, Elizabeth Korte (recently elevated to co-head writer alongside daytime TV veteran scribe Patrick Mulcahey), Shannon Peace, Stacey Pulwer, Dave Rupel, Lisa Seidman, and Scott Sickles.
Per Soaps In Depth, The Bold and the Beautiful did not submit themselves for the award. As of this publication, there is no word on whether or not The Young and the Restless’ absence is also of their own design.
As it was the category’s only nominee last year, DAYS managed a de facto win. Accepting the award from presenter Susan Lucci, Carlivati enthused that, “This is a total full circle moment, getting this award from the iconic Susan Lucci. I grew up watching her as Erica Kane on All My Children —Â I think I can name your husbands.” He then attempted the feat, narrowly missing out on one of Erica’s eleven marriages.
“We write 75-page scripts, five days a week, 52 weeks a year, over 250 episodes,” he continued, adding, “It’s a lot of work, so, it’s a thrill to be recognized like this.”
The 76th Writers Guild of America Awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, April 14. Will you be among the many viewers cheering on the best and brightest? Which nominated soap has your vote? Let us know in the comments below.
