General Hospital fans lost a longtime favorite at the end of 2022 when beloved star Sonya Eddy passed away at the age of 55. In March, GH paid tribute to Eddy when her fan-favorite character Epiphany Johnson died, but in December, the actress received another special honor.
Sonya Eddy Wins A Posthumous Emmy
On December 15, Eddy won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and her longtime friend and producing partner Tyler Ford accepted on her behalf.
Now, Eddy’s family is fighting with Ford to keep her statuette as another way to remember her, according to TMZ. While no legal action has been initiated, the family has requested possession of the statuette as another way to remember her.
Eddy’s Family Makes Claims
Eddy’s brother Robbie Eddy has told TMZ the family was surprised that she won the Emmy and thought the television academy would inform them prior to the award ceremony, which had been postponed from last June thanks to the Hollywood writer’s strike that ended in the fall.
The family has sent a letter to the academy requesting they give them the Emmy and told TMZ it feels like a “slap in the face” not to have it. Robbie Eddy wants his 84-year-old mother to have the trophy, as she was a large supporter of her late daughter’s career.
However, TMZ also reports that Eddy was estranged from her brother at the time of her death as they argued who would care for their mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease.
