The Young and the Restless treated fans to quite a trippy Friday episode all about Sharon — or was it all about Sharon and Nick, the long-ago married pair that can’t seem to stay away from one another, with good reason?
Sharon Makes A Choice
While Sharon’s (Sharon Case) dream didn’t tell her exactly what she sees for her future, it clearly told her what she didn’t see — and that was a long-term romance with Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd). After Sharon woke, she quickly told Chance she didn’t think he was the one and broke things off with him. However, as her dream ended, she wondered if it’s been Nick (Joshua Morrow) all along.
After all, they keep circling back to one another every few years. Y&R was even able to admit that things never worked out because of Nick and not Sharon. That bit of show and character self-awareness came when Summer asked Nick why he and Sharon didn’t last and Nick frankly told his daughter it was because he always screwed things up.
That’s putting it mildly considering that Summer is the product of the affair he had with Phyllis just months after his and Sharon’s teenage daughter Cassie (Camryn Grimes) died. They tried again several times and we were reminded why their 2018 wedding never happened. Sharon learned Nick had a one-night stand with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) while they were on a one-night unofficial break and decided not to tell her.
Sharon And Nick: The Endgame Couple?
Despite Nick’s screw-ups, Sharon has always found a way to make amends and keep Nick in her life, if only as a co-parent and friend. Is it time for her and Nick to see they have always been one another’s endgame?
After all, Sharon is now suddenly single, as is Nick. He’s finally faced the fact that Sally (Courtney Hope) only has eyes for Adam (Mark Grossman) and Sharon knows that Chance was a fun fling and great in bed, but that was about it. Plus, she was weary of having to fight Nick’s daughter for a man, and who could blame her?
If a character has a standalone dream episode, it’s usually because that character is at a crossroads in their life and needs to know what direction to take. Everyone and everything in Sharon’s dream told her Nick was the one. Surely, that means that Y&R is finally going to go there again. The only thing we ask is that this time, the show sticks with it.
‘Shick’s’ romance began 30 years ago as high school sweethearts and they stayed married for years — much longer than most soap opera pairs. They have also had angst for years, so maybe it’s time they finally found their way back to one another for that little bit of happiness all popular pairs deserve.
