This week’s General Hospital recap for January 2-5, 2024, details the fallout from the SEC secret coinciding with a beloved character’s death.
Sonny Learns All
As Lois (Rena Sofer) tried to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that Nina (Cynthia Watros) was the one who tipped off the SEC to Carly and Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) insider trading mess, Ned (Wally Kurth) and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) angrily got her out of The Savoy, but not before she could tell Sonny to ask Michael (Chad Duell) what was really going on.
Sonny screamed and yelled at Michael to give him a name, but Michael just kept saying knowing would hurt too many people. He finally said the name ‘Nina’ just as Nina and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) walked in. Sonny then screamed some more at Nina, while Willow ran from the club after realizing Michael had known for months and didn’t tell her.
Sonny berated Nina for her actions and ordered her to show up at Carly’s (Laura Wright) house in the middle of the night and apologize. Neither one had any idea how bad a demand that was right at the moment.
Later, Sonny oddly decided to go to church where he encountered Cyrus. Sonny was shocked to learn that Cyrus knew about Nina’s transgression as well and didn’t take kindly to his godly words. Instead, he beat Cyrus (Jeff Kober) to a pulp, landing the ex-con in the hospital.
Carly Gets Devastating News
After ringing in the new year in bed with Drew, Carly got the most heartbreaking phone call of her life when she learned that Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman) had passed away in her sleep while in Amsterdam. As Drew comforted her and made arrangements to bring her mother’s body home, Carly answered the door to Nina.
Unlike other times when she would tell Nina to go away and not let her get a word in edgewise, Carly conveniently decided to listen to her despite it being perfectly acceptable to tell Nina that this was a really, really bad time.
So, Nina blurted out that she was the informant, which only served to enrage Carly during her time of grief. She told her she’d never see Willow or her grandchildren again, while Drew told Nina he’d grab and hit her if she wasn’t a woman as he clenched his fists and backed her into a corner.
After Nina left, Carly wondered why her mother was dead and Nina was still alive.
As for Nina, she returned to the penthouse where an angry and bloody Sonny slammed the door in her face.
Willow Gets A Backbone
After Willow left The Savoy, Michael chased her to the pier where she ripped into him for keeping Nina’s secret under the guise of protecting her. Willow told him she wasn’t a wilting flower and could protect herself before chastising him for keeping secrets. That’s when Michael got in a dig about Willow keeping her cancer a secret.
Eventually, Willow figured out why Nina kept trying to avoid her for months. Michael was emotionally blackmailing her mother to stay away from her. This only served to make Willow angrier as she told Michael to find somewhere else to sleep.
Nikolas Is Back
As Ava (Maura West) closed up the gallery after a New Year’s Eve event, she was stunned to see Nikolas (Adam Huss) finally put in an appearance. The two exes had it out over him threatening Avery and her leaving him for dead after knocking him over the head with a gargoyle statue.
Nikolas also revealed the real reason for his visit. He wanted Ava to throw a party as a way to help bring down Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl). Ava was sure that Nikolas wanted to kill Esme and she didn’t want any part in that. However, Nikolas denied it and also denied killing Austin and sending her notes and a gun.
Laura Is Kinda Onto Esme
Laura (Genie Francis), Scott (Kin Shriner), Lucy (Lynn Herring), and Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) were also devastated by the news about Bobbie, but Laura had other concerns when Esme walked into the Port Charles Grill for a drink in the middle of the night. Esme sat down with Laura, who noticed her lone red glove.
Laura asked Esme why she went to Wyndemere, so she told a half-truth. She wanted to know if it could spark some memories. However, she lied and told Laura that the trip was to no avail and she didn’t remember anything. Laura then told Esme she needed to turn herself in for breaking and entering.
