To the fans hoping that S.W.A.T.‘s end would precipitate Shemar Moore’s return to The Young and the Restless — you’ll have to hold out for much longer. The procedural has cheated death for a second time and is guaranteed an eighth season.

We’re very pleased to renew it again and incredibly grateful to our partners at Sony, CBS Studios, and Shemar for working so closely with us to bring it back for next season.”

Added Moore (who serves as both the series’ headliner and executive producer): “S.W.A.T. IS BACK! BELIEVE IN MIRACLES! I am so proud of this show and the people and variables it has taken to make this show what it is and has become. I am so grateful to the fans around the world who have supported, watched, enjoyed, and rooted for S.W.A.T.! It is entirely because of this support that S.W.A.T. will continue to shine!”

In a subsequent Instagram post, which accompanied a video of Moore addressing the cast and crew on set, the actor wrote: “SWAT FAM!!!!!! The dream continues all because of YOU the FANS!!!! We love y’all and wouldn’t be here without your continued love and support!!! Thank you to [CBS] and [Sony Pictures Television] for believing in us !! Season 8 here we come!!! FILL THE GAPS ….
